Susanna Jenkins is a specialist in volcanic hazard and risk assessment. Her areas of expertise include probabilistic hazard and impact modelling, identifying risk mitigation strategies and evaluating the implications of volcanic activity on people and elements at risk such as buildings, infrastructure and agriculture.
She joined CAR after completing her PhD at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia. Her PhD research was concerned with assessing and quantifying volcanic hazard and risk through probabilistic frameworks, in particular utilising tephra dispersal modelling. A major component of the PhD involved the creation and construction of a regional tephra fall hazard and risk model, the first of its kind, which enables the probabilistic tephra hazard from multiple volcanoes to be quantified at any one location. It is planned to take this work globally in the future.
